Everyone who's posting about "OMG Wix are going to give our art away and the world will explode", please engage your brains and make an effort to inform yourself, or at least use common sense, rather than spreading misinformation. It's worth remembering that the people who stand to make a lot of money from the continued success of the site are not going to do something so ridiculously stupid that it would result in almost the entire userbase removing their work immediately and therefore massively devaluing the property they have just spent $36M on. So chill, alright?

There's been some confusion around wording used in TechCrunch's reporting of the DeviantArt and Wix story.

Their article includes: "...Wix will open up DeviantArt’s repository of art and creative community to the Wix platform, giving Wix’s users access to that work to use in their own site building."

Please know that the DeviantArt Submission Policy, Terms of Service and Copyright Policy all remain the same.  Deviants continue to own their own works. In the future, there's a possibility Wix might provide opportunities for you to license your work -- only if you want to -- to more people around the world.  And, there will be opportunities for Wix users to join DeviantArt and make the community stronger.

We need to talk about the elephant in the room. You know, the one that’s been sitting on us for the past couple years. Since we’re all

If people used their brains, you'd think they'd think that popular people wouldn't post their art here if their art, which is popular for a reason, was going to be used without credit, etc.

I have already conversed with someone who went to a lawyer and discussed the the Policy and everything else with them. Apparently, the lawyer agreed with them that the legal terms were damning, and they were kind enough to let me know. It comes as no surprise that they subsequently deactivated their account.

When these people come to me and start sprouting their beliefs, it really boggles my mind. :|

Even if the ToS changed, AFAIK every user would need to be notified so it's not like anyone could sneak "Haha! We're giving all your art away" in there without actually telling everyone about it.

Either people are that dumb, or they're looking for any excuse to leave. If you wanted to be on DeviantArt, you'd put at least a modicum of trust and faith in the system and in the history of the site.

True. I'm actually looking forward to see where we go from here. Looks very promising. But you're not addressing the "world will explode" bit... is the world going to explode, Tanya?!? :panic:

I looked into my crystal ball and it says no, the world is not going to explode. At least not cause of anything happening on DA :D

I'm not worried at all. It's very likely going to open up new markets for us, hence we may make even more money ourselves.
(What I usually do here at dA is to order my own prints, sign them, then sell them.)

I'm excited about the possibility of new features that we've been hoping for but haven't had the resources to create :)
