#MakeArtBeMagic: Spark your creative revolution
I originally planned to post this only on my website and share it on Twitter and Instagram, but then it struck me - how could I build something with art as its foundation and not share it with DA, the artiest of all arty places? So here it is, #MakeArtBeMagic, the DeviantArt version!

What is magic? Shifting consciousness. Harnessing energy. Recognising your power. Affecting change. Magic is everywhere, all around you and, most importantly, within you. Yes, creative person reading this, I'm talking to you.
Don't believe me? OK, think about the art you create. Whether you're drawing, painting, taking photographs, writing, making clothes, building furniture, dancing, playing music, designing graphics, games or gardens, or doing literall

Looking for some DA-related tutorials and guides?
You might find these useful...

A Guide To Connecting And Sharing On DAWhat's this all about?
DeviantArt is a HUGE website and it's easy to feel invisible, especially if you're new (if you're new, hello, we're happy to have you here!). The aim of this guide is to help you start connecting with other artists and their work as well as sharing your own art and encouraging feedback and interaction. It would be impossible to cover absolutely everything in one journal, so consider it a starting point and get ready to go exploring! I've included a few helpful links under each section, so you can use these as springboards to help you bounce around and find out more.

Get in the right mindset
The first thing to do is stop thinking simply in terms of what you want to get. DA, like a lot of places on the web, is a social experience. If you've been here
How to be a Guiding Light and a Shining ExampleHow can I help?
You don't have to be a Community Volunteer or have a fancy symbol next to your name to promote and support artists within your favourite gallery. The suggestions listed below are for everyone, and if you want something a little more useful than just my ideas, don't forget to pay a visit to the Help & FAQ section of DA.
Featuring art
To avoid repeating myself, I'd like to point you in the direction of a tutorial called Promoting Other People's Art On DA which contains information about...

Be a groupie
DA groups are set up and maintained by Admins, from the Founder (the person who 'owns' the group) to Moderators and Contributors.  These roles are different within each group, and each group has it's own set of rules for joining a

Promoting Other People's Art On DAOne of the great things about DA is that it's not only a place where you can promote your own work - it's also a place where you can promote art you admire by other people. There's a whole bunch of ways that you can do this, so if you'd like to help draw attention to awesome art created by your friends or brilliant things you've found while browsing, read on and find out how you could make someone's day.
Featuring art on your profile page and in your journal
If you look around DA you'll see all sorts of different features on people's pages and in their journal - selections from people's recent favourites, thumbnails of work on a theme, collections of prints etc. This FAQ explains how to link to artists and their art in your journal, page and other places on the site: :faq81:
While it's cool to be able to show off the work that you love in such a public way don't get carried away - when writing feature- or thumb-based journals, do your best to ensure that they have
DA Groups: Your ResponsibilitiesGreat power, great responsibility and DA groups
Just to explain before you start reading, this is an editorial written by me so the suggestions detailed below are my suggestions. I am not the oracle and this isn't an official DA tutorial. You are welcome to agree or disagree with me as you please, and I hope some people out there find this useful.
Clarity of Information
Make your joining and submission process, and any limits to it, VERY clear. People who have been in your group since it launched will have a good understanding of what can be submitted where and how often, but new or prospective members need to be able to find all guidelines easily so they can adhere to them. The more information your members have easy access to, the less time you'll have to spend repeating rules to people who have made mistakes.
Knocking down language barriers
Do your best to explain everything as clearly as possible because not everyone on DA will spe

The Artists' ManifestoWhat we owe ourselves
As artists, we work ourselves crazy in an attempt to arrive at the unattainable goal of perfection. We insult ourselves in a way that we would never put up with from someone else. We are our own worst critics, even during times when we go out of our way to support and encourage our friends. We pour our souls into our creations. We need to listen to the compliments along with the constructive advice. Remember that there is value in what we do and that we have every right to be celebrate when things go well. So, what do we owe ourselves..?
Recognise your talent
In this context, I'm talking about talent in terms of something you instantly feel an affinity with and have a flair for. This can be anything from painting amazing portraits to being naturally great at organising a group of people to work on a project. I have never met anyone who doesn't have a talent, but I've met people who aren't aware of their talent, even when others po
Motivation and CommunicationIntroductory Bit
Before I get started, I'd like to make it clear that this article is made up of my own thoughts, my own opinions. I hope that some of you read this and it sparks a little internal dialogue, but I'm not expecting that on any great level. It may spark a little external dialogue too, and that's fine. You don't have to agree with me and I would never expect everyone to agree with everything (or anything) I say. This is a collection of thoughts on a concept, a gathering of my own ideas and an act of sharing those ideas with others. There is no right and wrong. But there is motive and there is intent, and that's the perfect place to start...
Not seeking critique?
When you come across a piece of work that the artist hasn't enabled the Critique option for, do you leave a critique anyway knowing that it will not be welcomed? If so, why?
Because you feel annoyed with that artist and assume that they already think their work is perfect? Do you th

SubversiveAesthetic [alt photo mutiny]

SubversiveAesthetic is a welcoming space for photographers creatively exploring emotive, challenging and non-mainstream concepts, styles, subjects and genres.

Thought-provoking. Stylish. Dark. Bizarre. Creative. Fascinating. Unusual. Memorable. Beautiful. Photography for grown-ups.

The group welcomes photographs that are considered to contain Mature Content as per DA's policies and are tagged as such. This includes artistically presented nudity, fetish themes, dark and challenging concepts, and simulated violence, injuries and gore (although probably not all at once).

ProjectEducate [share, grow and learn as artists]

projecteducate (lovingly referred to as PE) was launched in 2008 to promote and support artistic and community growth and knowledge throughout DeviantArt.

PE is a joint venture between DA Community Relations and the community. During each themed week and weekend, we bring you a new set of articles with information, resources and features from one of the many galleries on DeviantArt. We also regularly host a Community Week where anyone in the community has a chance to submit an article to share!

We pride ourselves on being a fun and educational group, and we'd love for you to join us on this adventure.

projecteducate was founded eight years ago by Moonbeam13 and since then has been a project run by the Community Volunteer team. The group is aimed at providing educational information for artists who want to learn about all sorts of art genres or who want to contribute their own knowledge for others to read about.
Weeks are usually allocated in seven day blocks. Community Volunteers along with members of the community will take the lead and bring you seven days of awesome in the form of articles, features, chat events, interviews and maybe even a contest or two. However, we now also host "PE Weekends" where 1-4 articles are posted from Saturday to Sunday, giving everyone the chance to bring a topic to the attention of the community, in an easier and less time-consuming manner.
The volunteers and community members will share their knowledge about various galleries on DeviantArt, the Chats and Forums communities, or other DeviantArt related educational topics. We

When joining a photography group on DA, what is your IDEAL situation for submitting your work to their gallery? (PLEASE READ FIRST COMMENT!)

7 deviants said SOME of my submissions accepted, with some declined, based on the personal judgement of group admins in relation to perceived quality
6 deviants said ALL of my submissions accepted, with a practical limit on the number of submissions to avoid flooding people's message centres
3 deviants said ALL of my submissions accepted, with no limit on the number of submissions, even if the group's content floods people's message centres
2 deviants said VERY FEW of my submissions accepted, with most declined, based on the personal judgement of group admins in relation to perceived quality

Points gathered here will go towards prizes and subs for groups I'm in, thanky donatey miscellaneous goodness and other lovely things for lovely people.

Donations are gratefully received and kindly appreciated but never expected. I tend to buy Points for giving rather than rely on others for them but your support means a lot to me and all the Points I gather here are given back to the DA community. Thank you!

The amount of 1000 points is an arbitrary number pulled out of thin air/the ground/the back of my brain cause there was a box that asked for a number and I never say no to a box asking for something.

My Latest Book

Car Thieves

A novella
Published February 2018

The year 2027. Edinburgh, Scotland. Disease has swept a deadly path through society. A nightlife mogul with a violent past, a sadistic drug dealer, an artist craving companionship, a privileged playboy and a fiercely independent motor mechanic struggle to survive in the chaotic and brutal leftover world of the immune.

The book can be read in its entirety here on DeviantArt. Please visit this folder in my gallery to see all the chapters in order.

It can also be downloaded as a free epub, mobi or PDF file to read on any device from my website.
